Politicians, professional athletes, pop artists, authors and actors have all sought online and distance education as means to earn their degrees. The flexibility, accessibility, economic cost, and convenience of distance learning make it an attractive option to the typical person and to the rich and famous alike. Further, with the internet’s growing status as a household good, distance learning and online education have become increasingly common paths to earn degrees and are especially appealing to people with hectic schedules. For instance, Shaquille O’Neal completed his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix in 2005 before being traded to the Miami Heat. Both Hillary Duff and her sister Haley have taken online courses from Harvard Extension School. And even Arnold, the “Governator,” Schwarzenegger has taken advantage of distance education. The Governor of California received his bachelor’s degree in international marketing and business administration from University of Wisconsin-Superior in 1979.
